Can someone please tell me who first thought that being gay was a choice?
Please tell me how they came to that particular conclusion?
Because how does a small child in elementary school,
who never heard the word before,
CHOOSE to like girls as more than just friends.
How in middle school, she
CHOSE to be made fun of for never saying who she liked in fear of what people may say.
Who in high school,
CHOSE to be a butch girl, commonly mistaken for a boy,
and is often asked who their girlfriend is,
only to be yelled at for answering in her female voice.
So please, do tell.
How does one CHOOSE a harder life than needed,
CHOOSE to be hated by everyone
CHOOSE to risk dying alone
Maybe you CHOSE to be straight, but I sure as HELL never CHOSE this!

Spirit Day
You try hard not to cry
For all those who didn't and don't have to die.
You sit in your room and pretend it's alright,
You try to be silent as you tear in the night.
Hatred and ignorance, confusion and fear,
You look through the crowds and realize - it's here.
In the halls, 'that's so gay!'
In the streets, 'you're a fag!'
It's a choice,
It's a sin,
If you are, you aren't 'in'.
You chose to be you,
You chose to be sick,
A dyke, or a queer, or a boy sucking dick.
Who would choose to be hated?
Who would choose to be sick?
Those people out there, they don't know worth a lick.
We are people who live,
We are people who die.
We ar

Gay? Who? Me.
Are you gay?
The question at first startled me.
Speechless, unsure what I could say.
Are you gay?
The second time it was asked and I was silent
I had heard it before, but just earlier that day.
Are you gay?
Each time it was asked it filled me with shock.
What did it matter either way?
Are you gay?
When it was asked for the last time, I was at a loss.
Should I lie or lay in the bed I had made?
I am gay.
Maybe I am too young to know,
But this is what my heart wills me to say.
I am gay.
Maybe it is foolish to say so,
Yet it would be true to this day.
I am gay.
There can be hate or they can embrace.
I won't waver either way.

-Spirit Day-
As I walked around the school today,
I realized that time slips away.
From reds to blues,
All different kinds of hues.
But the one that stood out,
The purple all about.
Spirit Day,
Remember their play.
The boys you tortured,
Day by day.
Today we remembered,
Loved and hated,
Those boys that died,
And the community that faded
Them all into the background,
Causing them to think,
That they're all alone.
Pushed to the brink.
Just remember this is the day,
The day we wont let slip away.
Every year from on and on,
These thoughts shall ring,
A horrid song.
Those boys' lives slipped away,
All because of the word "Gay"
